. This new location had most recently held the famous Stars restaurant. Renovations were rumored to be budgeted at $3.5 million dollars.
The restaurant had several dining rooms, many suitable for private parties. The main dining room and bar area were large and open, with many Papua New Guinea masks and very large carved tikis. There was a bit of a rough start as the restaurant first opened, but after a series of improved bartender hirings, the drink quality improved.
The restaurant never quite found its footing, and closed in December 2007, after just three years in operation.

This was not up to par with the Trader Vic's tradition, but it is sad to see that it's gone. When we went there last in 2006, it had good decor, classy if a bit weak on the Tiki character, and good food. The vibe was a bit lacking and the drinks were perhaps slightly better than the Tonga Room, but not much.

I visited at about 5 pm a few months before they closed. They had no idea how to make a Doctor Funk - and the place was not clean. Table in the lounge were dirty - and service appeared to be "tired." Decorations where spotty - some rooms where perfect - others where confused. Considering how close to Oakland and the Company's main offices - I was surprised at how the attention to detail was allowed to be so sloppy. I was sad to hear it closed (one less Tiki bar) but they worked hard to achieve the final result.
