The Havana Trader Vic's opened at a volatile time -- just six months after the restaurant opened, its American manager was shot while running to catch one of the last airplanes out of Cuba back to the US. This location is still open and Polynesian, but it is no longer a Trader Vic's -- it is run by the Cuban government as El Polinesio
Reverse Sunset was a semi-regular at Trader Vic's.

When Trader Vic opened it in conjunction with the opening of the hotel, it was nestled into the lower level of an original Hilton. One of the current bartenders has a scrapbook of the history of the bar over the years. In addition to featuring his grandfather as one of the opening bartenders, the scrapbook displays several famous actors and politicians who visited the bar, mostly from the early 1960's.
Much of the original decor is intact. Drinks are quite inexpensive and delicious. Surprisingly, the bar seems to be generally unpopulated. The bartender will give you a tour when it's slow. It is a standard of mine every time I go to Cuba, and I would recommend it to anyone with at least an ounce of class and an appreciation of original tiki.
