The Jungle Bird opened in October 2016 in Midtown Sacramento. The bar and restaurant is owned by Melissa and Tyler Williams (of Sacramento's Tank House) and Buddy Newby. The decor includes lauhala and bamboo, with a few large tikis. There is an outdoor patio. A full menu of tropical drinks, including many classics, is available. The small food menu has a mix of old school Polynesian and modern Asian-Pacific fare, including a Pu-Pu Platter.
we had a strange night
tikimugs to sell but only not rally good looking once not possible to get a cocktail in there one tikimug
the girl at the bar was not rally cool (strange night)
i want to come back and hope it wil be better
i think it coed be a good tiki bar but i need to go there again !!!!!
Great spot and pretty raucous on a Saturday night in Sacramento! Stopped by here after watching a local burlesque show in Midtown and snagged a seat at the bar. It was only after the fact I was informed they have a back patio, that must have been where the barback kept bringing so many empty glasses from! Space is quite large with lots of nooks and crannies to sit in, plus this not-yet-seen-by-me patio area. Sweet drinks on a decent menu. I loved all of the jungle birds hanging up all over the ceilings. Looks like a fun spot with lots of regulars and those swinging thru for the kitsch!

Love this place. Great decor, good vibe, decent drinks & lots of fun. Chill crowd & lots of seating. Parking easy. Weak link is food. Wish they'd fix it. Selection small & tiny portions even for an appetizer + high food prices. Only thing plentiful enough to consider a real meal is the burger...but its a prefab patty & super mediocre flavor. Wish they'd step it up. Love it otherwise.

We visited on a Monday night on our Tiki Kon Trip, and we were fortunate that we went early and got to spend time chatting to Buddy one of the partners of the bar, he is a totally cool guy, and has a great enthusiasm for Tiki, which shines throughout his bar, did you know he built the bar himself !!!
The drinks were excellent, he has a good knowledge of rum, and we even was able to taste some bits and bobs. If we get back to Sacramento we will definitely stop by, we had a great evening. Thanks Buddy.
It's great to have a tiki bar in Sacramento. But while the drinks are good, and the food is frankly above-par for a tiki bar, the atmosphere is really lacking in ambiance, especially on the back patio which could be the best spot in the place if they did anything to decorate it. Even the rest of the place isn't very decorated, tiki-wise. So go for the drinks, but you'll likely find yourself wishing that they'd put as much effort into their atmosphere as they did into their drinks and food.
Our second visit (first in about a year) was great. We sat in the back room that is more traditional tiki decor. Totally mellow vibe back there, and we loved our drinks. My Mai Tai was top-notch (only $10 too). My wife loved her Lava Flow that had incredible zebra stripes. She also liked the Maiden Voyage that has Dole Whip.
Our food was great too. Service was outstanding, and music was exotica too. Great place.
I was so excited to finally go to Jungle Bird. We made a hotel reservation and hit the road. The decor was kitschy fun with cute parrots hanging around, our waitress was friendly, and the food was quite tasty. The chicken skewers, Korean rice bowl, and pan-fried noodles were yummy.
Then our drinks came. I got a Mai Tai, since that's a pretty standard tiki drink, and almost choked on it. It tasted like someone put a few squirts of Torani caramel syrup, a splash of sweet n sour, and a bit of rum into a glass. It was a nasty sugar bomb, and in no way resembled a Mai Tai. My bf got his drink, which was equally horrid. We each got a second drink, both of which were just as disappointing. If you love Tiki vibe, decent grub, but aren't serious about your tiki drinks, this might be your bar.
We're hitting our local tiki bar tonight to cleanse our palates.

Really Fabulous, Authentic Tiki Bar, and a welcome addition to Sacramento's exploding Bar and club scene, with a Revival style that has been Long overdue! Tyler and Buddy run a tight ship!
I was surprised at how good this bar is. I hadn't really heard much about it, but it was very, very good.
The drinks were delicious (I like the old school recipes) and the PuPu platter was also excellent.
The staff and owner were friendly and outgoing. I had an excellent experience and next time that I am in Sacramento, you had better believe that I will be at Jungle Bird again.
Jungle Bird is where it's at. I went twice during my visit in May of 2017. The staff is friendly, to the point of helping me plan a day trip to San Francisco. The atmosphere is perfect. Dark and cozy and not trying too hard. Exotica music and great drinks. I just wish they sold some mugs!!!
Love this place, I visited on a Saturday evening and had a great experience. A friend and I sampled 4 drinks each and they were all made to perfection, garnished perfectly and served in the appropriate drinking vessel. The music was great, the service was spot on. I'll be back as soon as I can get back to Sacramento.
I'd like to think that I just caught these guys on a bad night. Jungle Bird definitely gets the look right, and the food and drinks are both above average. But, the mood when I visited was definitely subpar. The music was thumping R&B, and the crowd, while not exactly college kids tossing back jaeger shots, was loud, drunk, and, in my opinion, not in the tiki spirit. Service was meh. I'd give this place a second try in the hope that this was just an off night.
We had a great time at Jungle Bird, which overall was above par. The location in a charming neighborhood of Sacramento is a good indication of the venue. The front room contains the bar, window seating, and a few tables (the nice centerpiece is the restaurant logo with tiki on the far wall) and a jungle+bird theme. The back room i more traditional tiki with booths and tables. The drink menu is a tad on on the small side but certainly worthwhile. My Mai Tai was great, and the signature drink Jungle Bird was also refreshing. The spicy Spooky's Lagoon was more for fans of Don the Beachcomber style spices. We saw a group order the $100 Three Hour Tour, complete with Gilligan's Island music over the speakers. Speaking of music, we were less than thrilled with the Beach Boys during most of our 90 mins there. There were a few surf tunes before and after, and I hope more the usual fare.
We sampled the pupus, and found the Crab Rangoon to be good (not as good as Trader Vic's, but better than Forbidden Island), but the Shrimp Cakes and Coconut Shrimp were outstanding. For entrees my wife liked her Mahi Mahi while my fried chicken was just okay. We did like the Kahlua chocolate cake for desert.
This tiki bar was definitely above average and for a non-metro area (Chicago, SF, LA) was great. Definitely worth checking out when you're in Sacto.

GF surprised me by taking me here for the first time on my birthday. To echo another comment, finally, finally, FINALLY a tiki bar worth going to near me. No longer will I have to make the drive to Alameda or SF to fulfill my tiki craving.
