Rum Rok opened in December 2015, in a section of what had been a large nightclub space on the edge of Sacramento's downtown. It closed just a few months later, in July 2016.
After 2 visits my opinion was, "If I wanted to introduce a 'tiki virgin' to the amazing world of Tiki...THIS Would be the LAST Place I would bring them!"Opened with great hopes for something authentically TIKI, but was a tragic disappointment. Management claimed they Knew exactly what they were doing", but proved oblivious to what truly makes a great location, successful much less tiki.
Located across the street from a Sacramento Performance entertainment venue and icon, yet was NEVER open before their events to offer libation to theater goer's.
Drinks were mediocre at best, and management pitiful. Not a surprise the half baked 'Rum Bar" theme collapsed.
Rum Rok was open for a year. Underwhelmed everyone. Was basically a sports bar playing Jimmy Buffett with decor about par with luau decorations from the dollar store. Loud TV's? Why do this in any restaurant or bar? So as of July 2016 they are shuttered.
We were visiting friends in Sacramento and of course had to stop by the only tiki bar in town. Knowing it was new-ish, we were even ready to let some things slide. Sadly, we were underwhelmed. For a spot that had so much potential, they really missed the mark. Even though I thought the selection was decent, the drinks were awful - they really, really LOVE lime juice there. The place is pretty large and sparsely decorated. I keep calling it "too clean". I expect tiki bars to have tiki stuff in every nook and cranny. I didn't hate the music, but it was off, more Caribbean/Jamaican than surf/exotica. The crowd was a bit younger (20 somethings). We stayed for two rounds of drinks (I'm a firm believer in giving second chances) and couldn't help but notice that most people filtered in and only stayed for one round. Maybe it was the lime juice? The waitress was attentive enough, but didn't seem to know much about the drinks and couldn't answer a simple question without consulting the bartender. On his second round, our friend ordered the first drink his girlfriend had ordered. When it came to the table, it was clearly NOT the same drink. When we returned it, we were told that they had run out of one of the ingredients and had "experimented". Um, it's polite to ask the customer if it's okay before subbing out drink ingredients in their drink. Overall, we really wanted to like this place. But we just can't recommend it. :-(

This is not really a tiki bar and the rum selection seems limited to be a rum bar. The drinks they did have weren't good and you'll notice the slurpee machine as soon as you walk in the door. The decor consists of Home Depot tikis and some matting on the wall. Otherwise, it's an empty space. The music was truly lousy but I guess it fits for the crowd of 20-somethings that kept eyeballing the lady I was with. It's too bad Sacramento finally gets a new tiki bar and it's nothing like a tiki bar. I recommend you stay away and don't waste your time.
