Humuhumu’s description

Red Rum is a tiki bar and restaurant in Bellingham, Washington. It opened in March 2018. The space is dimly lit with mainly red lights. The bar is lined with bamboo, and thatch is used throughout the space, including on an A-frame structure over seating. There are several large tikis in the space, including a very big moai on the wall beside the bar. A full menu of tiki drinks is served in tiki mugs, and light food is available late into the evening. Tuesday is a karaoke night. The front of the building is lined with bamboo.

AtomicTikiSpy likes this place! The decor and lighting gives more of a modernist vibe with an uncluttered appearance vs the masses of flotsam and jetsam we all love if done right (like at Shameful Tiki). This take on tiki allows one to focus on the drinks which are very nicely executed. The Mai Tai is made with Rhum Agricole from Martinique and a Jamaican Rum. The delicious Painkiller is served as a tall drink and garnished with a freshly sliced pineapple wedge. The Cuban Sandwich with fries is satisfying and the portion size ample. Dip was tasty. AtomicTikiSpy's BMI is in the overweight category. Music was a mix but had many tiki-appropriate tunes. Custom souvenir mugs or swizzle sticks may be available at some future time. At the time of this review (Summer 2019) DOLE WHIP (!), originally on the menu has been dropped until a more suitable machine can be acquired! Red Rum is a welcome addition in this tiki-sparse region.

Visited there with friends on July 23, 2018. The place is quite an open space (although we went on a Monday night, so not too busy.) Very clean, albeit a bit clinical-feeling for a Tiki bar. The drink presentation was fun, and the food was tasty, but both menus needs some expansion in terms of variety.
Red Rum is fun, and our server was excellent, but I think they need to up the Tiki factor and add more to the menu for it to really be a standout. However, it was still a good time!

Visited the Red Rum in July 2018. The visit was fun and enjoyable. The room had a fun Tiki vibe, the staff was great. However the drinks were a little inconsistent and the menu (food and drinks) could use a bit more diversity.
