Humuhumu’s description

Mai Kai Lounge is the bar of the Tecumseh Inn, on the west edge of town. It opened in 1971 and has remained mostly untouched since.
The bar has carved Witco tiki barstools, and two tall tiki poles. The table and bar surfaces are covered with a tapa design, and the circular booths are upholstered in '70s vinyl colors: orange, avocado, aqua, blue. The backs and toekick areas of the booths are upholstered in green astroturf, and are surrounded by bamboo curtains and faux bamboo plants. There are two hanging rattan chairs suspended from the ceiling, with orange cushions. The lighting is dim and moody, provided by float lamps, beachcomber lamps, and white and red string lights. The building's exterior is simple, but the white walls have modern abstract shapes in relief.
Despite the ideal tiki bar setting, and the full bar, there is no menu of tropical cocktails.
As of this writing in April 2009, the bar is temporarily closed, but the owner of the bar has assured that none of the decor is being removed.

When I first went to document this place the bar was closed. The girl behind the counter in the motel lobby gave me a strange look when I told her I would like to photograph the lounge. A call to the owner and she turned on the lights for me......... just like turning the key in a time machine.
