Lotus Garden is an older Chinese restaurant with a few tiki details here and there. The entryway features a waterfall with a stream that runs under a small bridge; the bridge's railing posts are some nice wooden moai. The bar has some nice bamboo details, and drinks are served in tiki mugs.
Good place. Not a tiki bar. The actual bar is small and pretty much on par with restaurant bars from the late 70’s/80’s.
That being said, the drinks were good, not stingy with the rum. The food was great and the service was awesome. The decor was very old school Chinese restaurant.
I’ll go again!
Stopped in with the family on a road trip, and just because it was close to our route.
The first thing you need to know is that this is not a Tiki Bar…but rather a time capsule of a midcentury Chinese Restaurant. The décor is what I remember Chinese Restaurants looking like when I was a kid, and there was only one in town, or in our case, two towns over. There is nothing modern, but also, very few things that would be considered Tiki.
The drink menu was impressive, with the options to buy souvenir cups and bowls, but nothing is unique or branded for the Lotus Garden. My wife and I split a Tiki Bowl, and thankfully for me (the driver) it was a pretty weak drink. Cant speak to the others on the 20+ item drink menu, but all the classics were there.
The menu is so large and comprehensive that I struggled to find which dish to try.
Food, well, the food like the décor harkens back to a midcentury idea as well. Meaty and fresh but missing the tang and zing of modern interpretations of Chinese-American Dishes. I do want to note that I didn’t ask for my dish to be spicier, so its hard to judge the overall.
Finally, in parting, we could not have asked for better service. Our server had been with Lotus Garden for years and was kind, fun, and full of knowledge about the restaurant, its history, and its legacy.
I do recommend but know-it’s not Tiki, but cool in its own right.
