The BEST bar snacks. Mmmmm, mai-tai. (or even just a Charter 8yr on the rocks. It was dark, and kitschy, but it was clean, cool, and dive bar-ish in the best way possible. This was my a go-to for my buddy Brad and me. Decent steak too.
I visited the Kon Tiki many years ago (late 80's early 90's?). It was the middle of the day, the place was closed for business and I was just there to shoot a TV news interview with someone for something... I don't remember who or what. We were in the bar area next to the stage, I asked the proprietor to turn on all his lights, he said they were, the place was dark. I remember lots of thatch over the bar and tiki idols... and that's about it. The Kon Tiki was in a former movie theater, which I believe was formerly known as the Don Theater.
