Humuhumu’s description

The Kon Tiki Camping Resorts likely operated during the '60s and '70s, and are long gone now. Brochures from the time list them as being eight miles south of St. Augustine along the ocean, off of Route A1A South... it's likely that the current-day non-tiki Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort is on this location today (though if this is so, the area has been totally remodelled). The Kon Tiki Camping Resorts logo featured a moai, and a very large (about 20 feet tall) moai was somewhere on the property.

I did find out that the campground was a 40 acre site and was either right next to the Bryn Mawr or it was one half of the campground. On the brochures at a different site it shows that Kon Tiki would have taken up Bryn Mawr site. I did contact Bryn Mawr and was informed that it was originally part of Kon Tiki Campground.

Stayed at the Kon Tiki Campground for 3 months in 1973. They had a store for groceries and beach goods in the middle of the Campground. Was an excellent place to stay among the dunes and was close to the beach. At that time you could take your vehicle and drive along the beach. They had several Moi of different sizes were around. The store may have been at the corner as HowieLucero claims. Not quite sure. Now BrynMawr Ocean Resort and can be located on Google Earth.

Stayed there in Summer 1968. The Moi were at the front entrance. After Kon Tiki closed, the last place I saw the moi was in the early 1980's. The statue was lying down (face up) in a fenced area behind a convenience store at the corner of A1A & A1A Beach Blvd just north of the campground location. The old campground is now Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort.
