I was hired by my friend Dale Dellar, to make TIKI themed signs and decor for the Kahuna Grill. Of course I jumped at the chance... so I was the sign painter for the restaurant, and it was here that I did my very first ever palm frond tikis, just for fun, and they have since turned into a big thing for me. Im now known for my palm frond tikis.
Kahuna Grill is now gone, sadly, it was a WONDERFUL spot! Really good food, your classic surf burger joint, not really "tiki", but more surf, and the owners were SO nice. I was really sad to see it go. I hope the reviews here will stay as a memorial to the Kahuna Grill. Aloha!
This is a surfer-themed burger joint, not tiki although it had a couple obligatory tiki carvings but it's dominated by surfboards and surfing pictures. Not worth a stop if you are on a tiki tour/hunt.
The second location I mentioned above closed October 2014. It was in the Paseo Nuevo mall in downtown Santa Barbara. The original Goleta location is still open as far as I know.

Kahuna Grill is a small fast-casual restaurant in the food court of an outdoor shopping center. The menu is mostly burgers, salads, and sandwiches. They serve beer in bottles. The food is good and a good value. There’s a fish tank inside and the walls are decorated with surf boards and surfing photos and memorabilia. A television plays continuous surfing videos. The tikiness is limited to one or two free-standing carved tikis and also the logo of the restaurant is a tiki head.
Kahuna Grill now has a second location:

Santa Barbara, CA 93101

I have only been here once when a customer of mine bought me lunch and took me here. The food is very good and I remember the sweet patato fries were awesome. There is some tiki swag but I think it was more surf or tropical themed. Overall its good joint.
