Humphrey's Half Moon Inn is an upscale hotel, sporting a dramatic A-frame porte cochere and many well-maintained and unusual tikis throughout the grounds. In the summertime, Humphrey's plays host to national music acts during their very popular Humphrey's Concerts by the Bay series.
Humphrey's is one of several great vintage tiki locations on Shelter Island in San Diego, the others being Bali Hai Restaurant
Stayed here. Many of the rooms are awful parking facing boxes. But the other side by the bay has some nice rooms with a good grassy palm tree view and a few tikis
My dad was a pilot and this was the hotel they would put them up in back in the 90's. On occasion, my mom and I would hop on a flight with him for an overnight so I have a handful of fond memories of this place from when I was a kid. I also remember thinking the name was funny to me as a child for whatever reason.

Absolutely love this place! Just walk across the parking lot to the Bali Hai. On sunny days, we thoroughly enjoyed lounging poolside with all the lush tropical plants and tikis surrounding us! So fun to walk the property and discover ALL the tikis there - IMPRESSIVE. Great place to take photos, looks like we went to Hawaii ;) Rooms are spacious, perfect for our family of 4. Only bummer is you can't get a tiki drink in the bar. And you have to walk a bit to get to the bar. Might as well walk to Bali Hai. Or bring your own like we did.

This was actually one of the nicer hotel stays I've had in San Diego, including the Del Coronado(!). The restaurant serves good food, though not tiki, despite being house by an A-frame building. Great location across the street from Bali Hai if that's what you're after anyway.
I have stayed there while my sailboat is being serviced at Driscoll Boat Yard. It is very nice and very well maintained. The rooms are fresh, and their layout is slightly different from regular base hotel rooms. When I have guests coming to sail with me - I always recommend Humphrey's Half Moon Inn. Everyone has been very pleased. It's a shame they do not have a stronger bar - but the competition from Bali Hai could be the reason for that.
