. This location opened in early 2014. True to its name, the look of the place is sleek and tiki-lite. The main room has several large carvings by Tiki Bosko on the back wall, and a large tiki by Tiki tOny stands out front.
I'm not sure if the HULA'S people were trying to save money on the decor or if they were simply trying to appeal to the millennials out there, but this HULA'S (and the one in Phoenix) is NOTHING like its cousins on the West Coast. Despite the kitsch-free atmosphere, I was pleased to see they still served tiki cocktails---especially HULA'S signature cocktail (in my mind only), The Pink Bikini, which I gleefully ordered once I spied it on the menu. For a look at HULA'S MODERN TIKI-SCOTTSDALE through my eyes (which includes lots of photos as well as visits to other Phoenix-area tiki spots), you can check out my blog here:
It was what it said it was...a modern Tiki bar. The place was great, had a modern Tiki vibe, with plenty of Tiki carvings and décor to go around. The food was fantastic and there were many traditional items, and other items they put their own flair to as well. What we had was great. They also had a wonderful burger as well for the kids. The drinks were tasty for certain, and the liquor was top shelf. Drink prices were quite affordable and fair for the drinks. Drinks were served in great Tiki glasses/mugs as well. It was a great time, and one we will be back to when we are through that part of the country in the future. Worth the drive off the highway for certain!

Open and breezy and modern. Definitely trying to be open and inviting to tourists. That said, don't discount this place. They're pulling a refreshing vibe, and the Mail Tai easily competes with any great tiki bar in the US.
They need to offer more items for sale. The two low ball glasses are nice but maybe change up the colors. How about a mug with your name on it. Maybe shirts. Swizzles would be nice. I asked a waitress if they sell the menu, she gave us a funny look, said "NO" and walked away.
When you have people in your bar willing to spend money, offer up items and take the money!
Great bar in the tourist area of Scottsdale. This is a modern tiki bar with a very extensive bar and good selection of beer. The food is very good. They have a neat tiki display behind glass under the bar, which is hard to view, but cool nonetheless.
Ok, so they have mugs. Cocktails are nothing special, although my girlfriend thinks the Dr. FUNK should be offered on tap at quick marts nationwide. Food is acceptable, but modern is the key. Two locations in Phoenix, the Central Avenue Location is the better of the two for feel and perhaps vibe, but these are not classic tiki bars by any means. Two for one specials do make for an enjoyable night out.
