If you want a modern Hawaiian style experience, this might suit you. However, if you're looking for (in my opinion) a Tiki experience, please look elsewhere.

While there is the image of a tiki on their menu and poster, not much else about it is tiki. There are a couple signs declaring tiki bar to let you know that it's supposed to be a tiki bar, and a flimsy thatch "roof" over the bar, but beyond that nothing special. Beyond the bathrooms was a sign to the back room labeled "tiki room" but no tikis. Just some TVs and a few posters.

Food selection had some Hawaiian style selections: We went with a pupu platter with ahi poke, Pele wings, and sesame chicken. The tuna seemed past it's prime and the chicken in the fryer too long. The luau platter wasn't much better. The shredded pork was good, but the rest was meh.

There were no classic exotic cocktails to be found other than various daquiris. Almost all of their menu drinks were vodka based. I counted eight rums behind the bar and only three of them not spiced or flavored. Standard glassware for the drinks.

On the up side service was great and our waitress treated us well. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the presentation was nice for what it was.

Being a local establishment, I was really hoping Hukilau would suit my needs. As it is, my living room is far more Tiki than the Hukilau, so I guess I will have to stick to home for now.

Pretty decent Hawaiian vibe here, with some great food. We visited on a Saturday evening when they had some live Hawaiian music, which definitely aided the atmosphere. The combo plates we had were great and overall the food was tasty.

As for the drinks, their drink menu heavily features vodka, and so I'm biased in a downward rating since rum should be favored in this sort of place. My Mai Tai was rum+juice but was refreshing and reasonably strong. Same can't be said for my wife's Lava Flow which lacked strong flavor (pina-slushy+rum).

The decor here isn't overly elaborate, but has Hawaiian touches done up in a unsophisticated manner. Which sort of has a down-home Honolulu vibe (like a locals place). They have another location in Honolulu so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it might be like the one over there.

Anyway, not really "tiki" but Hawaiian is close enough for my taste.
