in Milwaukee. It is owned and operated by the same folks behind Foundation, and decorated by owner Don Nelson with the assistance of Milwaukee's own Dave Hansen, a.k.a. Lake Tiki. The feel of the space is a true extension of the highly regarded tiki bar below it, with vintage mugs, pufferfish, rattan furniture, tapa cloth, and carvings by Lake Tiki. The room is rented out via AirBnb, with two beds that can sleep up to four guests.
My wife and I flew from Houston to Milwaukee just to visit The Foundation and stay at the Captain’s Quarters. I have to say that this is a tikiphile’s dream come true! One of the best tiki bars in the world on the first floor, and your own private tiki paradise just up the stairs! Don and Charles have really decked their B and B out in tiki style, complete with a vintage record player with exotica and Hawaiian records, Oceanic Arts lights and masks, bamboo framed art, and bamboo and wicker furniture. You can chat with Don as he tends bar at The Foundation. It’s all located in a hip neighborhood with lots of cool restaurants within just a block or two. We had a fantastic time, and we will be back. This is a must stay for fans of tiki!

My wife and I and a friend stayed here specifically because we were in town to visit Foundation and friends for a weekend trip. There was plenty of room for multiple people to stay here without feeling on top of each other. The decor is great and high quality. There’s also a nice little kitchen, a record player and a bar! Not that you need it with foundation just downstairs. Good coffee shop right around the corner and plenty of great eats within walking distance or a short drive depending on what you’re looking for.

Whilst visiting Foundation Don invited us to pop upstairs to have a look at the Air BnB - what an amazing space, I would definitely think about staying there, although you'd have to get me out the bar first....

This unique apartment is the entire second floor above the Foundation Tiki Bar. After many years of hosting visiting tiki enthusiasts in the bar, they have extended the theme and beautiful decor to the second floor. Guest enjoy their own private tiki lounge, complete with authentic wood carvings, pufferfish lights, rattan furniture and oceanic decor. Decorated by Don Nelson, with carvings by Dave Hansen.
