About:
I'm a long-term Tiki fan sad about the passing of this great idea, and especially nostalgic today for those cool, dark restaurants with their near-psychedelic lighting, far-out mugs and even farther-out cocktails. My guess is that Tikis died because of the proliferation of various kinds of ethnic foods--from Ethiopian to Japanese--in stylish, upscale restaurants that make Tikis look camp. But I say hurray for camp! I hope Tikis return--with exotica and lounge music, they hold a place in numerous hearts. What little we have now is a sometimes grotesque shadow of what once thrived.
