Trader Vic's

Corporat-iki...a far cry from the original, the bar is poorly designed, and does not make you want to stay...feels like an airport bar, over lit, way too open, way to bland...

the rest of the space is a bit better as far as tiki deco goes, they definately spent the money and put stuff in the space...the entry tikis are cool and the materials are quality...

drinks are from the original Trader Vics menu so they couldn't screw that up...

i went there again last night and brought family and friends for dinner...we had a great meal and really fun drinks and starters...i have a better opinion of the spot now that we spent time in the dining room...the food was really good!

A wonderful place and a credit to its heritage - Trader Vic's as it should be!

Trader Vic's is more like the Disneyland of Tiki Bars. This place is definitely on the fancy side, but I took my girlfriend here for dinner and we were BLOWN away at how amazing the food + drinks were. Definitely a date spot, but be prepared to deal with the hell that is Downtown Los Angeles. Parking is a pain, and usually expensive but once you manage to find a cheap lot, (there's a $10 lot across the street during the week) you will be in heaven. I've had nothing but good times at Trader Vic's but it's definitely a once in a while kind of visit.

Swung by today to pick up a mug and possibly a few other items. Unfortunately they did not have the items I was looking for but I was able to get the mug. The service was great. the hostess and bartender were great. I enjoyed a "Big Kahuna" while my buddy enjoyed a Mai Tai. Very good time.

Tikiness seems to take a backseat in this place to make it more mainstream. Also, they were out of quite a bit of merchandise...I wonder if the place is in financial trouble. That being said, we ate at many different places over 10 days in LA and this was everyone's favorite. The food is delectable, the passion chicken is one of my all time favorite dishes. The mug served also says that it is from Trader Vic's LA which is a plus. I wish there were some more options on the drink menu, the Trader Vic's in Tokyo had more options but the drinks they have are actually really good, especially the big kahuna.

Had the opportunity to hit this place up twice in too weeks. What I really noticed was the music. It was horrible for a tiki themed resturaunt or bar. I realize they are a part of LA LIve and have to tie into the Nokia theater and Staples Center, but really? This is Trader Vic's. Anyway, this will not keep me from coming back. Service was great. Food quality was very good, and the cocktails were fun.

An embarassment to the spirit and name of Trader Vic. Uninspired rum selection. A manager who thought nothing of haggling with a supplier for even cheaper prices on the low quality swill rum they seem to serve with everything. Horrible location. It faces to the north, so never any sun and fronts a 7-lane wide road that is a primary thoroughfare for downtown LA. So you get to suck exhaust fumes and tremendous traffic noise with your Mai Tai. Poorly maintained with several features broken and way too grubby for such a new place: can't believe it's within a stone's throw of a Ritz-Carlton. Strictly for tourists who hate LA and loaded businessmen and their hookers looking for something exotic. It will be closing soon enough. What a disaster.
