Aloha

The great Aloha closed around 1990. It was the mother's milk of Tiki for me, and instilled a life-long love. It had a little lagoon, black lights, and delightful Polynesian/Chinese hybrid food. I was, alas, too young to drink. What a joy it was! I remember on my birthday, sitting in the giant wicker chair!

(There was another Rochester tiki place, opened in the 1960's, called the South Pacific, but I remember, vaguely, it not being as cool at the Aloha.)

Currently the Aloha building is a sushi joint.

The Aloha was a great place to go as a child and well into my teen years. It was so unique. The arched bridge over the lagoon and waterfall. Palms throughout, and the bars sat in cozy corners with a south pacific feel. The fountains were on a timer and would go off every so often.

I would enjoy seeing additional photos of the interior or find additional websites on the Alohas history and facts

The Aloha restaurant and the motel were owned by the same owner. The original Tiki Aloha motel,next to the modern one was demolished in early 80's and replaced with an American restaurant(Friendlys or Perkins?)The Aloha food was actually americanized chinese food,and some dishes had some pineapple and sold as "polynesian food".They had awsome tropical drinks that no one was able to make or copy...the recipe was a secret. The mix drinks were so good,because it took a lot of ingredients to make and it was very time consuming,thus,they had to be pre-made and pre-mixed the day before,as these fanststic drinks could not be made instantly per customer order. The Aloha had a live band on weekends,playing Hawaiian songs...Tiny bubble in the wine.....more to come. Stay tuned.

Does anyone know the names of the owner of the Aloha Restaurant during the late 60s early 70s.
I lived in Rochester as a boy and my dad worked there during that time. They helped us out a lot and I wanted to thank them, or at least their children for their kindness.
