Neon sign at The Lanai in San Mateo
May 1982, photo by Mike Campbell
Have a photo or a collectible from The Lanai?
Add it to Critiki! Humuhumu’s description:
This restaurant at the Villa Hotel (now the Radisson Villa Hotel -- criminy, I'm afraid that one day I'll come home and there will be a Radisson sign over my mailbox, but I digress...) closed in 1988. The restaurant location is now reportedly a Walgreen's. (Double criminy!)
The Lanai had a dramatic neon palm tree sign, and an almost identical one still stands at The Leilani in Fresno.

This was where a rather tall high school boy learned about TIKI and rum. Oh yeah it was THE PLACE back in the day. They had a twenty foot mural behind the bar with a twenty foot fish tank under it. The mural changed lighting such that it appeared to go from sunrise to sunset over the course of an hour or so. The scorpion bowls were to die for complete with floating Gardenia.
Dr. Tiki was a regular at The Lanai.
