This attraction used to be a duplicate of the original Enchanted Tiki Room found at Disneyland, but in the mid-90s it was updated to be more "modern" and included Iago and Zazu, and (sigh)... rap. The loud, unsettling and money-focused show featured disco balls, flashing lights, and in place of the beloved waterfall, a shouting, angry tiki goddess named "Polynesia." I'd heard how awful this redo was (and even read the script online), and still I was unprepared for how heartbreaking it really was.
In January 2011, a fire struck the Enchanted Tiki Room, and the show room was damaged enough to shut it down. It needs to be rebuilt, and will come back as the Enchanted Tiki Room "Tropical Serenade", a version "reminiscent of the original show".
The building itself has been worth a visit, with classic Exotica (such as Martin Denny) can often be heard playing in the lovely lanai area. Until the show re-opens, get a fix of your Enchanted Tiki Room jones at the Polynesian Resort, which has tikis from the original Tiki Room's pre-show scattered all about the hotel.
